Adhesive Solutions for Low Surface Energy (LSE) Automotive Bonding

Significant emphasis on vehicle design has created a demand for innovative and technically advanced materials and surface finishes. In response to consumer requests for increased fuel economy, more lightweight plastic, low surface energy (LSE) materials, such as polypropylene and polyethylene are replacing metal parts. The need for an effective adhesive solution for this specific bonding application has become one of today’s biggest challenges.

Avery Dennison Performance Polymers offers a variety of pressure-sensitive adhesives for LSE tapes and labels used throughout the vehicle, including underhood, in-cabin and exterior applications. These modified acrylic adhesives wet out more easily than other adhesives, providing a strong, secure bond to LSE substrates.

In addition to excellent LSE adhesion, these adhesives offer a range of performance characteristics that provide high temperature resistance or low VOCs to meet the needs of an array of applications.

With the application of new automotive industry technologies and the continual transition to advanced LSE materials, there will be an ongoing need for custom-made adhesive solutions. Working closely with our customers, our scientists and engineers can develop new polymer systems to address the most complex challenges.
